Odds And Ends.

Very busy....four remotes in three days, airshifts, meetings, music scheduling--including four days of hand-picked Stones, Floyd and Zeppelin...hence the lack of posts. However, some observations from the side of the road...cause as Neil Young once said, he was feeling like he was in a middle of the road rut. So he ran off the road into the ditch. Harder ride, but you meet more interesting people there. Off we go....

Remember the wage-price freeze days of the Nixon administration? If GW wants us to believe he's NOT in bed with the oil companies, he should declare a freeze on gas prices....until the oil companies prove that the hikes are justified. We're looking at Carter-era inflation if something isn't done soon.

The tragic circumstances in NOLA make me hurt inside, and I wish i was younger and without kids, so I could risk all and go down to report and/or assist in what will, in fact, be a years-long cleanup effort, if in fact we ever see New Orleans the way it was.

I liked Jimmy Buffett better before he won an award, and started pandering to the NASCAR t-shirts and country fans in the crowd at Deer Creek. A true Parrothead wouldn't wear ANYthing as gaudy as those damn racecar logos. Too many new songs....and not enough old ones. Although to be fair, if I worked for the record label, and I was helping fund the tour, I'd insist on the new stuff too.

In a related topic, despite my initial (and the occasional subsequent) misgivings, trucks and blocks were mixed with reasonably phenomenal results Wednesday night. No drama, no pain....just warmth, mild affections, good conversation, and a sense of smug satisfaction (on both sides, i think) that we COULD function in a normal, adult relationship...even if it wasn't the one originally hoped for. Buffett shows are escapism, and designed for experiencing with friends and loved ones....and my drinking companion may actually, with some additional effort, finally fit into BOTH categories.

Sure, the rum and jello shots (thanks Heather!) helped...now the trick is to make it happen without them.

Airshift and basement party/Buckets/O's trifecta on Sat...Going to work around the house , and try to go to Kruse on Sun....US Nationals on Monday with good friend RH, as a pirate looks at forty-three. Tuesday starts the new airshift.

Mike Zuber called Wednesday while we were at Buffett....wanted to ask if photographer Steve somebody from the paper could use my Hawaiian shirt. (sorry, Steve, but I don't remember your last name...but i'm sure he's a good shooter.) SO if you see a blue shirt with white flowers in the paper, let me know so I can get a copy of it. Or hell, maybe he's just a tubby guy that got invited to a Buffett party, and needed something to wear. I don't know. A friend asked for a favor...I deliver. I try to, usually, when I can.

Happy birthday to me. And Justin Gillespie at K, and Dave Sharp at WMEE (theirs both on Tuesday.) And Anthony. And Ron Wright, in a week and a day. Call me and find out where the party's at....it's looking more like a moveable feast (or, staying one step ahead of the law--depending on your point of view.) Might do a shot with you at Eddie Money on Thursday. Might see you at the Friends of the Bob And Tom Show pre-party at Wrigley Friday, or the show at the Embassy later that evening. (RH should be there, taking pictures.) Might run into you at O's for Classic Rock Saturday with Soul Purpose next weekend. And damn it, I need some hot cucumbers, and 13 nachos one of these days, too.....

See why I haven't updated recently? This is the kind of running that makes it fun...and tiring at the same time.

Haven't seen JQP around lately....don't know how his knee is, cept from his blog entries...and you have to sift carefully to detect the truth inside his sense of humor. Sort of a literary pig-in-a-blanket....check here to see what I mean. Perhaps our paths will cross in this social whirlwind that seems to have engulfed me.

Still longing for the beach.....or maybe the mountains....I could use a trip down to deliver a zerbet or two to some beautiful girls in East Tennessee, and get a new UT henley....

We could go hiking on Tuesday....with you I'd walk anywhere.

On that note, I depart....wishing Monday would come...
